ALHI Members Supported Local Communities in 2022
“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth,” said late—and legendary—boxer Mohammed Ali.
Associated Luxury Hotels International members helped their communities through a variety of charitable organizations throughout 2022.
Here is a cornucopia of projects that just some ALHI members accomplished in 2022:
InterContinental Miami
Making a Miami-worthy splash, the InterContinental Miami helped Make-A-Wish Southern Florida raise $5.4 million during the 27th Annual InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball. A 45-minute set of chart-toppers was performed by megastar singer Diana Ross, who encouraged guests to donate in her finale. The hotel has, over the years, made contributions of more than $37 million to grant final wishes of terminally ill local children.
The Breakers Palm Beach
A program that encourages employees to take time for volunteering led 1,629 Breakers team members to serve 226 agencies and host nearly 700 volunteer activities. The hotel organized a toy drive for a local youth center, donated $4,748 of supplies to an area school for the needy and raised over $109,000 for United Way.
La Cantera Resort & Spa
La Cantera donated about $40,000 to various local organizations during the first three quarters of the year. It arranged dining events to fundraise for Culinaria, which supports hospitality workers; gifted rooms revenue to a food bank; and contributed to the Uvalde Relief Fund.
Seaport Hotel
Due to the closure of the neighboring World Trade Center Boston, the Seaport Hotel reduced its furniture inventory and donated hundreds of tables and chairs, valued at over $30,000, to The Mather School, in Dover Mass, the oldest public school in the nation.
Terranea Resort
Terranea Resort partnered with several charities, spotlighting a different organization every month. Guests were invited to make donations while proceeds from many leisure activities also are given to charity. The hotel raised $2,000 for St. Vincent Meals on Wheels and over $21,000 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In October, the hotel contributed $15,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando, Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando
Through the hotelier’s partnership with U.S. Hunger, Loews’ staff packaged meals on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The program started in 2013 at Universal Orlando Resort at Hard Rock Hotel and five other Loews Universal properties now have joined in. By year end, the hotels will have packaged over three million meals for U.S. Hunger.
The Charleston Place
In support of lists outlining needs made by children, Charleston Place donated $5,964 in cash and supplies.
Eden Roc Miami Beach
Eden Roc Miami Beach hosted “doggie yoga,” a monthly workout for humans surrounded by dogs, and a $25 registration fee per attendee was donated to Animal Lovers Rescue. Focused on removing dogs from emergency situations, the organization typically received $1,150 per session. The Eden Roc partnered with Clean Beach for a beach clean-up; 78 attendees collected over 400 pounds of garbage.
Half Moon Jamaica
Half Moon engaged in several initiatives. Among the highlights, it provided over 200 books to schools; employees upgraded the SOS Children’s Village—a non-profit that supports orphans—through cleaning, gardening and more. Half Moon’s ownership company’s CEO donated one dozen sick bay cots and a television to an area school.
Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa
Omni Barton Creek donated numerous meals to the needy. Its annual contribution to the Central Texas Food Bank spiked by 500 meals via a guest golfer game; it provided 20 meals for every birdie or eagle scored by golfing guests, and it gave back a meal for every guest’s stay.
InterContinental New York Barclay
Participating in a quartet of charities, the Barclay made weekly donations of toilet paper, bedding and towels to The Bowery Mission, a shelter for homeless and hungry New Yorkers. The hotel also gave food, drinks, condiments and guest room amenities to Crossroads, another entity that helps the homeless and the hungry.
Live! Casino Hotel Philadelphia
Several organizations were helped by Live! Casino, including Philabudance, which packed food bags on 9/11 Day of Remembrance with property staff, and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk.
Noelle
Noelle cleaned, raked and more at Bell Garden, a local spot that teaches kids healthy eating; it made over 60 tote bags, stocked shelves and more for the Nashville General Hospital Foundation; helped customers check out, and more, at The Store Nashville and cleaned up around Radnor Lake.
The Omni Homestead Resort
The property supported numerous Omni-wide initiatives, including the donation of one meal to Feeding America for each completed stay. For that same organization, as the official hotel of the PGA Tour, Omni helped provide four meals for every birdie or better made during each PGA event. This past season the company provided over 222,000 meals.
Silverado Resort & Spa
“#TeamSilverado” takes part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s every year by taking a stroll around the property. This year, the hotel’s group was the largest team in Northern California to participate in the event.
