July 30th marks World Day Against Trafficking, created by the United Nations to bring awareness to human trafficking and how it affects people around the world. This day commemorates those who have been affected, as well as those on the front lines working to stop and prevent trafficking. ALHI stands with those who have been victims of human trafficking.

What You Need To Know

  • Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers. This includes both in their home country and overseas.
  • Almost a third of all human trafficking victims worldwide are children, according to the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, released in December 2016 by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
  • Women and girls comprise 71% of human trafficking victims, according to the UNODC report.

The Blue Heart Campaign

  • This is an effort to raise awareness about trafficking victims and to work with politicians to gain support and penalize those who commit criminal acts.
  • The objective is to provide humanitarian, legal and financial aid to trafficking victims.
  • Proceeds from the campaign go to United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children.
