L'Auberge Del Mar is a cornerstone of the Del Mar community. With an authentic blend of style and elegance, this coastal estate resort truly allows for that breath-of-fresh-air moment as soon as you walk through the doors. Inviting spaces and tasteful décor encourage relaxation and connection. Get lost in a book by the pool, renew yourself at Spa L’Auberge, grab a bite at the ocean view restaurant, or take a stroll down the private path to revel in five miles of sandy beach. No matter what you desire, the resort's unique placement within the village allows guests to explore every inch of Del Mar.

L’Auberge Del Mar is located on the historic site of The Stratford Inn, built in 1910. The Inn was a hot spot for Hollywood celebrities looking for an escape from Tinseltown and the excitement of Bing Crosby and Pat O’Brien’s brand new Del Mar Fairgrounds and Racetrack. Celebrities such as Lucy and Desi Arnaz and Jimmy Durante were often found at the resort.

During World War II, the beachside hotel opened its doors to soldiers and their families for much-needed holidays. The post-war saw the hotel fall into disrepair and it was eventually demolished in 1969. In 1985, local resident Jim Watkins purchased the property and rebuilt the hotel, and in 1989, it re-opened its doors as the L’Auberge Del Mar.

Since 1989, the resort has seen many changes, beginning in 2008 with a $25 million renovation and again in April 2021 under the direction of BigTime Design.
