The Meritage Resort and Spa, the premier AAA Four Diamond resort located at the gateway of Napa Valley, has launched a strategic renovation to its premier event and conference venues, which will include the renovation of 322 of its 467 guestrooms. The property proudly offers the largest meeting space in Napa Valley in addition to more intimate settings, making it the ideal venue for events ranging from large corporate conventions to exclusive social events.

The extensive redesign project, spearheaded by HBA San Francisco, updated and modernized the Meritage Ballroom in December 2022, followed by the Carneros Ballroom which was completed in January 2023. Guestrooms renovations of the resort's 157 Meritage guestrooms and 165 Bordeaux guestrooms will be completed in March 2024.

“The Meritage Resort and Spa has always been known as Napa Valley’s premier meeting destination. This renovation will amplify our offerings and allow guests and attendees to experience all the wine country has to offer, with unrivaled design and technological capabilities,” said Joe Leinacker, managing director of The Meritage Resort and Spa.  “HBA San Francisco meticulously redesigned the event spaces to reflect the unique culture of Napa Valley wine country where groups can gather, connect, and celebrate life’s important moments.”

Ballrooms

The Meritage Ballroom’s new design is inspired by Napa Valley’s notable acres of sun-soaked vineyards. Modern, neutral furnishings will be added to enhance and highlight the striking wine and gold hued carpeting.  Subtle herringbone and geometric patterned wallcoverings are balanced with ivory and slate-colored ceilings to add a dramatic effect. Chandeliers, custom designed by HBA San Francisco, are composed of gold and black metal with hundreds of white glass lights to set a stunning ambiance for any occasion.

The new design for the Carneros Ballroom is inspired by the property’s Mission-style architecture which the design team at HBA San Francisco took elements from and married with what they see as Napa’s design aesthetic of elevated California-casual mixed with a relaxed, sophisticated style.  The overall design is transitional with clean lines incorporating Old World touches of rustic beams, wrought iron, mosaic tile, and warm wood tones paired with muted neutrals.  Leather and rope tiebacks accent the drapery while custom chandeliers composed of black iron and hundreds of crystal prisms add a touch of elegance to the venue.

Guestrooms

Once completed, the Meritage guestrooms will feature new broadloom carpet with a modern basketweave pattern, fresh paint, drapery, and furniture including deep wingback chairs with an ottoman, patio furniture to enjoy a morning coffee or afternoon glass of wine, decorative lighting and lamps featuring a dark bronze finish, new accessories and amenities including luxurious Frette Linens for the bedding and updated millwork in the coffee niche. At the bath entry, a dark barn door will provide contemporary contrast to the fresh white walls. Guestroom baths will feature updated vanities, decorative stone backsplash, lighted mirrors and decorative sconces.

In the Bordeaux guestrooms, the interiors will be guided by the agricultural history and grains of Napa in a natural, tonal color scheme and feature sophisticated finishes with a slightly rustic touch that is fitting to the resort’s wine country locale. The guestrooms will showcase decorative lighting with a mix of dark bronze and brushed brass, new wallcoverings that highlight a subtle geometric texture to give softness and depth to the room, fabrics of a neutral pallet with an organic feel, and new broadloom carpet with a modern, geometric design.

“Leather detailing and metal hardware showcase elevated craftsmanship in a sophisticated interpretation of an equestrian aesthetic,” said Sarah Hullinger, senior project designer, HBA San Francisco. “Wood, leather, metal, and stone are carried through the furnishings and fixtures, bringing a slightly masculine element of rustic comfort, while linen fabric and curved lines at the coffee niche balance the room with an approachable softness.”
